Gyms, leisure centres and studios

Thirty members. Thirty streams. One broadband line.

A gym is the one venue where heavy use is normal use. Members bring their own phone and stream for the whole session, and they are perfectly entitled to — you offered them WiFi. The problem is that on most sites the same flat network is also carrying the entry scanner, the class screens, the studio audio and the till. Separate the two, put a limit on each device, and both sides stop fighting each other.

From £39 per site per month, no VAT added. No site survey fee, no installation charge — it arrives configured and ready to plug in.

What is actually happening

It is not that the WiFi is slow. It is that nothing is in charge of it.

Three facts about a gym floor that no amount of extra broadband speed will fix on its own.

Every member on the cardio floor is streaming

Nobody watches the screen on the machine any more. They bring their own phone, their own headphones and their own subscription, and they run it for the length of the session. Thirty members on a Monday evening is thirty simultaneous video streams, and that is not misuse — it is exactly what you told them the WiFi was for.

Your own kit is on that same line

The entry scanner or turnstile, the class booking screens, the studio audio, the reception till, the vending, the cameras. On a single flat network they queue behind whatever the cardio floor is doing. The visible symptom is a member standing at the barrier at half past six while the app decides whether they are a member.

A limit per device is what fixes it

Time and bandwidth limits are set per access tier and enforced on the router in the building, so no single device can take the line. Thirty members each get a usable share instead of the loudest three getting everything, and your own systems are not in the queue with them at all.

What we set up

Two networks, one line, nobody in your team managing either.

The router is ours to configure, monitor and change. Nobody on reception logs into anything.

Members and the business on separate networks

Guests and members sit on their own network. The access control, the booking system, the till and the back office sit on the network your business runs on. A phone on the gym floor is nowhere near the system that decides who gets through the barrier, and no card data ever touches us.

No password on the noticeboard

A gym password ends up on a laminated sign, in a welcome email and in every ex-member’s phone. There is nothing to leak here: access is granted per session through your login page, on the terms you set, and you change the terms without re-telling four hundred members.

The kit arrives ready

The router is configured for your site, tested and boxed before it is dispatched, and it comes from within the UK on a UK courier with nothing to pay on delivery. It goes into a spare port on the broadband router you already have and is live the day the box lands, with no site survey fee, no installation charge and nothing to rip out.

January does not cost more

New-year sign-ups, a free-pass week, a school holiday. We do not price by how many people connect, and there is no overage charge — which is worth checking against anyone else you are looking at, because guest-count pricing is common in this market.

Straight answer

Which package a gym actually needs.

This is the one venue type where the obvious upsell is usually the wrong advice, so here it is written down before you ask.

You probably do not need the guest list tier

You already hold your members’ names, emails and mobile numbers in the membership system, and they gave them to you properly. Capturing them again at a WiFi login adds an extra step for the member and very little for you. For most gyms the useful package is Basic — branding, separation and limits — and we would rather say so than sell you a tier you do not need.

Where the guest list does earn its place

Day-pass visitors, class drop-ins, a spa or climbing wall open to the public, a café in the lobby. Those are people who are not on your membership system, and Basic + Data Collection captures them with a separate, unticked marketing opt-in, as PECR requires — a WiFi login is not consent to be emailed.

What the numbers actually tell you

Basic + Data + Guest Insights gives connections and visitor counts by day and hour, new versus returning, and how long people stay connected. Read it as a pattern, not an occupancy figure: it counts the people who chose to connect to the WiFi, not everyone through the barrier. Your access control already counts bodies. This tells you something different — when your building is busy from the member’s side of it.

Vouchers for the people passing through

Day-pass holders, personal trainers using your floor, contractors, the physio who rents a room. A code that expires on its own is a cleaner answer than the same password everyone else has.

Pricing

Three packages, per site, per month.

Fixed monthly fee, no cap on how many members connect, no overage charge, and written notice to leave. On rolling monthly, one calendar month's notice. On a 12-month plan, the balance of the term falls due — unless you took the £149 hardware option, in which case a month's notice is all it is.

No VAT is added — we are not UK VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay. Every site is the same price per site, with one login covering a group of clubs and no per-site surcharge. The router is included on a 12-month plan, or £149 one-off if you would rather stay on rolling monthly. No site survey fee. No installation charge. We run on your existing broadband: all we need is a spare network port, a power socket and a spot with good signal to guests. Broadband and line charges are not included.

Support runs Monday to Friday, 06:00–15:00 GMT (07:00–16:00 BST) — open before the six o'clock crowd arrives. Where a big floor plate or a pool hall genuinely needs extra access points, we produce the plan and the kit list and your own electrician or IT contractor fits them.
